INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION

If you have been admitted as an international student to Anoka-Ramsey Community College, welcome! We are excited to have you join our community this spring! 

Orientation is a required step that international students must complete. Below you will find information on how to prepare for orientation, what to expect at orientation, and the drop-down menu with the available dates/times we offer international student orientation.

To reserve a spot in International Student Orientation, select the date listed in the menu drop-down at the bottom of the page, and complete the online sign-up survey that appears. 

PLEASE NOTE: ORIENTATION FOR BOTH CAMBRIDGE AND COON RAPIDS STUDENTS IS HOUSED ON THE COON RAPIDS CAMPUS.

How to Prepare for Orientation

  • Know Your StarID and Password.
  • Complete the Accuplacer or have qualifying college-level English and Math coursework from another college or university within the United States sent to Anoka-Ramsey.
    • You must complete Accuplacer Testing prior to your orientation date at Anoka-Ramsey.
    • To schedule an Accuplacer Testing Session, click here, select the campus where you want to test, and register for a session.
    • To prepare for the Accuplacer click here and find the section on the page titled "Resources to Prepare for the Accuplacer".
  • If applicable, send official transcripts of prior college coursework to Anoka-Ramsey.
    • If you have taken classes at an institution outside of the United States, you must have an official evaluation completed by one of the following organizations prior to sending the transcript to Anoka-Ramsey.
    • If you have taken classes at another institution inside the United States, make sure to follow Step 2 of the Transfer Student Steps so you can send an official transcript to Anoka-Ramsey as soon as possible.
    • New students who do not have coursework at other colleges do not need to complete this step.
  • Log into your Anoka-Ramsey Email Account and find your actual Email Address.
    • Hover over the "Current Students" tab at the top of Anoka-Ramsey's homepage with your mouse, and select the "Email" option in the drop-down menu that appears.
    • Your email username will be your starID, followed by @go.minnstate.edu
    • Your password will be the same as your starID password.
    • To find your actual outward-facing Anoka-Ramsey email address, click here and follow the steps.
  • Learn about Star Alert.
    • Star Alert allows you to receive college closing or emergency communications to your email or phone. You are automatically enrolled in Star Alert as a registered student. Click here to learn more about the service and change any preferences you have regarding your account.

SEVIS Fee (I-901)

You need your I-20 to apply for F-1 student visa at the U.S. Embassy in your home country. You MUST PAY your I-901 fee before your visa interview. Course registration at Anoka-Ramsey is not permitted without this payment.

Tuition and Fees Payment Information

International students are NOT eligible for federal financial aid. You MUST pay your full semester tuition and fees upon registration. You may risk losing your courses if you do not secure your payment. International students must maintain a full-time course load (12 credits or more) to maintain F-1 status. Below is an estimated expense for a full-time student for an academic year (Fall & Spring semesters) at Anoka-Ramsey.

Medical Insurance Information

Anoka-Ramsey Community College will automatically enroll international students in the Mandatory International Student Health Insurance plan provided by United Healthcare. You MUST pay your full annual health insurance prior to course registration.

What to Expect at Orientation

We are excited to meet you! Below is a sample of our schedule so you know what to expect for the day.

  • 10:30 am: Check-In
  • 11:00 am: Group Presentation
    • Our Admissions and Advising staff will talk to the group about general college information, essential college policies and expectations for students, campus resources, and will give a registration tutorial.
  • Noon: Lunch
  • 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm: Advising & Registration
    • Students will meet with their assigned academic advisor for Anoka-Ramsey individually for 10-15 minutes. Advisors will provide students with course recommendations, help students check their Anoka-Ramsey accounts, and share the advisor's contact information with their students.
    • With their course recommendations, students will register for classes, receiving help from Anoka-Ramsey's staff.

We hope that once you leave orientation, you have met your assigned advisor, have a schedule of courses for your next semester, and feel comfortable with your next steps at Anoka-Ramsey.
