Tutoring Services

Welcome to Tutoring Services at Anoka-Ramsey Community College! We provide FREE tutoring for Anoka-Ramsey students to help them build the skills and confidence needed to be successful in their coursework and reach their academic goals. The tutoring program is officially certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.

Support is provided by peer and professional tutors dedicated to student success.

Professional Staff
The professional staff in each center hold advanced degrees in their content areas and have a passion for helping others succeed in their courses. Many of the professional staff have prior experience tutoring others, demonstrating the necessary support skills to help Anoka-Ramsey Community College students.

Peer Tutors
The peer tutors are recommended by professors and put through training that emphasizes the importance of guiding students rather than instructing them. Each peer tutor has taken courses at Anoka-Ramsey, and can offer insight to help students study and master course content.

We encourage students to take advantage of the many tutoring services available on our campuses!

  • Overview

At the Writing Center (Rm SC163, Coon Rapids Campus), writing tutors will assist you with writing in any subject area at any stage of your writing process, from brainstorming to final draft. Tutors aim to make you a better writer but do not "fix" an individual piece of writing. Writing services are not just for people struggling with writing; writers at any level may benefit from talking with a trained reader who can listen well and offer suggestions.

  • In addition to ARCC’s on-campus tutoring services, we provide access to the SmarThinking Online Tutoring service. This online tutoring service is accessible through the D2L Brightspace course navigator. Students are granted 15 free hours of online tutoring per year. Please contact Paul Whiteford at 763-433-1826 with any questions.

  • Yes, you!

Peer tutors are Anoka-Ramsey students who excel in their course work and possess skills and qualities that make them valuable tutors. In addition, peer tutors have been recommended by Anoka-Ramsey faculty as demonstrating superior subject knowledge.

Your success in a recent class may be valuable to students who will take that same class in the future. If you feel like you would enjoy tutoring your peers in a subject where you've been particularly successful, please follow the recommendations for becoming a peer tutor.

How to Become a Peer Tutor

    • One way to become a peer tutor is to receive a recommendation from an instructor. You may speak with an instructor in the field of study that you would like to tutor.
    • You may also contact the Academic Support Center to learn more about peer tutoring.
    • If you are recommended by a professor to become a peer tutor, all tutors must complete the necessary peer tutor training and the required face-to-face training sessions on your campus.
