Program Information

Granted by Southwest Minnesota State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science is now offered at the Anoka-Ramsey Coon Rapids Campus.

  • Students in Exercise Science may enroll at both Anoka-Ramsey and Southwest Minnesota State University, and can enter the Bachelor of Science degree program as a first semester freshman or as a transfer student.

  • Granted by Southwest Minnesota State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science is now offered at the Anoka-Ramsey Coon Rapids Campus.

  • Program students complete general education and Associate in Science in Exercise Science degree requirements from Anoka-Ramsey, while also earning credits toward a bachelor's degree from Southwest.

  • The purpose of undergraduate research is to highlight the original work done by Southwest Minnesota State University undergraduate students.

Students have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty member to design and administer an in-depth research project.

It is this type of research that develops a student's understanding and professionalism related to the field of Exercise Science.

Undergraduate research also help students to successfully apply to graduate and professional school.

  • Through lab experiences, Exercise Science students will develop skills in analyzing, assessing and enhancing all aspects of human movements. These experiences provide students with the knowledge to design effective training programs in strength, explosive power, cardiovascular endurance and anaerobic capacity.

    • In the Kinesiology lab, students are prepared to be effective instructors of human movement and exercise.
    • In the Biomechanics lab, students learn about movement by using motion analysis software to capture, store and critique video sequences of human motion. This technology greatly enhances understanding of the laws of physics as applied to the human body as well as the teaching implications to improve peak performance.
    • In the Exercise Physiology lab, students gain valuable insights into the body's response to exercise using treadmills, bicycle ergometers and metabolic gas exchange technology.

  • The Southwest Minnesota State University Bachelor in Science program provides strong practical applications for Exercise Science majors, allowing students to perform hands-on experiences of classroom and laboratory learning.

The bachelor's degree culminates in an internship in the career interest of the student's choice so graduates are prepared to enter the job market or pursue professional and graduate school,
