Requests for Employee Personal Data

Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Human Resources Department receives requests frequently for information covered under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. The purpose of this document is to clarify the difference between private, confidential, and public data.

Public data is employee information that can be released to third parties without written consent/authorization from the employee. The following are public data:

  • Employee name 
  • Salary Range 
  • Value/Nature of employer-paid benefits 
  • Previous work experience 
  • Actual gross salary 
  • Actual gross pension 
  • Education and Training 
  • Job title and position description 
  • Work location/Office number and work telephone number 
  • Honors and awards 
  • Dates of first and last employment 
  • Payroll data (except data that reveals private data)

The following items are not public data and are considered private information. These items cannot be released to third parties without the explicit written consent of the employee:

  • Home telephone number
  • Home address
  • Birth date
  • Ethnicity
  • Gender
  • Immigration status
  • The following items are considered “confidential” data and cannot be released to outside third parties and/or the employee:
  • Grievance information (has not reached final disposition)
  • Active investigative materials (has not reached final disposition)
  • Social Security Number
