Policy 2B.4 Student Activities: Approval to Add or Drop Activities

Purpose

The college will provide students the opportunity to increase their leadership skills and academic proficiency through Student Life. Student Life program offerings will foster student participation through an array of choices.


Adding an Activity, Club or Intramurals

The decision to add an activity, club, or intramurals will be based on the following criteria (not in priority order):

• Student interest
• Alignment with college strategic plan goals
• Availability of staff
• Availability of facility
• Availability of venues or athletic competition
• Availability of funding

Dropping an Activity, Club, or Intramurals

The decision to discontinue an activity, club or intramurals will be based on the following criteria (not in priority order):

• Student participation
• Availability of staff
• Availability of facility
• Availability of venues or athletic competition
• Financial constraints
• Program integrity and compliance

Additions or deletions of student activities will be recommended by campus student life committees and will be shared through the college Communication Process. The President makes the final decision on Student Life programs.  

Activities, clubs or intramurals that are discontinued could be reinstated based on meeting the criteria outlined in the Adding section above.

Activity Budgets

Expenditures are incurred in accordance with state regulations, league rules and college policy.

Approved Activities

The Student Life program is primarily intended for currently enrolled students during the term. However, periodic participation by others is permissible if special skills or talents are needed for a particular event or production and registered students are not excluded from participation. A list of approved Student Life programs will be presented to the College President annually.
