College partners with Linwood Elementary School to study critical habitat

August 19, 2016

Anoka-Ramsey Community College Biology faculty member Jennifer Braido and Linwood Elementary School in Forest Lake were recently selected as the primary 2016 The Education Foundation of the Forest Lake Area Fund-A-Grant Recipient (TEFFLA).

Braido and Linwood Elementary School Principal Jim Caldwell co-wrote the grant proposal to implement a district-wide, long-term study collecting data on the use of the Linwood School Forest as a crucial wildlife corridor using trail cameras.

“I am very excited about the partnership between our schools,” Braido said, after hearing of the award. “I am also very eager to see how the service and support between the elementary and college students involved strengthens our community.”

Braido, currently on sabbatical, will serve as a subject matter expert at Linwood Elementary School in outreach from the college to support the development of inquiry-based learning opportunities and field research investigations utilizing the 200+ acre Minnesota School Forest.

This TEFFLA grant must be funded with bids at the upcoming fundraising event:
