Anoka-Ramsey Community College announces new Creative Writing certificate
October 17, 2019
Anoka-Ramsey Community College is excited to announce the addition of a new certificate option offered by the English Department. Beginning in spring 2020, learners have the option to obtain a Creative Writing certificate.
The Creative Writing certificate is a 19-credit program. It can be taken in concurrently with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree or as a stand-alone certificate. Through the program, students have several choices about which classes to take, so they can tailor the program to their unique interests.
The program also aims to provide flexibility. All classes are offered in online and seated formats, which allows students to enroll in courses that fit their learning styles and schedules.
“We wanted to offer our students a flexible, less intensive option to our Associates of Fine Arts (AFA) in Creative Writing degree as well as serve our surrounding community with a non-degree option,” said Kathryn Kysar, instructor and Creative Writing subcommittee co-chair. “The certificate may be especially appealing to seniors, educators, or professionals who'd like more training in creative writing.”
To celebrate this new addition, the Anoka-Ramsey English Department will host an event at the Coon Rapids Campus on Thursday, Oct. 24.
At the event, guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the Creative Writing certificate and degree options available at the college.
The event will also feature notable alumni from the program including Jessica Kieran, who recently won a 2019 Veteran's Voices Award from the Minnesota Humanities Center Humanities.
Guests of the event will receive a free copy of the latest edition of the “Rapids Review”, the Coon Rapids Campus literary magazine featuring original works of creative writing and art from Anoka-Ramsey students.
