More about Antigone by Sophocles
Antigone is an ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles written in or before 441 BC. The third of the three Theban plays, it tells the tale of Antigone and her attempt to secure a respectable burial for her brother, Polynices. Brothers Polynices and Eteocles are both killed in a conflict called the Seven against Thebes, but King Creon decrees that Eteocles is to be buried with full honors, while the body of Polynices is left to rot. Antigone defies the king’s order, is caught and sentenced to death. Creon reconsiders and decides to bury Polynices and free Antigone, but his change of heart comes too late.
