September 29, 2015

Sorrel King, nationally renowned patient safety advocate and speaker will share the events that led to her daughter Josie’s tragic death due to medical errors, and how she turned her tragedy into a crusade to help avoid such errors in the future. Learn about the innovative patient safety efforts the Josie King Foundation has inspired, and the crucial role we all play in preventing further deaths due to medical errors.

The public, college students and health care providers are encouraged to attend one of King’s speaking engagements:

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015
7 to 8:30 pm
Cambridge-Isanti High School, Performing Arts Center
(430 8th Ave NW, Cambridge)

Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015
8 to 9:30 am
Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Performance Gym
(11200 Mississippi Blvd NW, Coon Rapids)

“Josie’s story, along with the impact on her family makes the statistics of errors that occur contextual,” said Gwen O’Brien, program coordinator and Nursing instructor at Anoka-Ramsey. “Health care professionals and the public can identify with the family to strive to change practices. I heard this story when I was completing graduate school and viewed the video of Sorrel speaking; it was impactful to my practice and represents what I wanted to impress on future nurses.”

The events include a one-hour presentation, a question-and-answer session, and a book signing of King’s memoir - Josie’s Story, A Mother’s Inspiring Crusade to Make Medical Care Safe. Books are on sale before and after the presentation.

The events are free of charge, and sponsored by Allina Health, Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Anoka-Ramsey Community College Cambridge Campus, Student Nurses Association Cambridge Campus, Anoka Technical College Foundation, Cambridge-Isanti Community Education, Presbyterian Homes & Services, and Saint Therese. Free CEUs for health care providers.
