College hosts day-long Mental Wellness event, Tuesday, Oct. 4

Anoka-Ramsey Community College Cambridge Campus is hosting a day-long Mental Wellness event, Tuesday, Oct. 4, featuring four presenters as well as representatives and service providers from various community agencies. This event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Event Details:
TXT4Life Speaker, 11:30 am to noon
TXT4Life, a non-profit organization operated by Canvas Health, has trained counselors available to respond to texts from people of all ages about a wide range of topics and crisis situations.

Mental Wellness Journeys, 4:30 to 5:30 pm
Monica and Erik Akre discuss their journey before, during and after their bipolar diagnoses.   

Mental Health Resource Fair, 5 to 6 pm
Community agencies, providers and representatives will be discuss mental wellness resources in the region.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) presents “In Our Own Voice”
A Community Conversation About Living With Mental Illness, 5 to 8 pm
Sue Abderholden, the Executive Director of NAMI, will discuss attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes about mental illness by describing the reality of living with mental illness, followed by a question and answer session.
