More about the One-Act Plays
All the plays are reflections on the funny and not-so-funny ways people handled family, life and death in the early part of 20th century America.
Trifles by Susan Glaspell follows the aftermath of the death of Mr. Wright when a group of men, on orders from the county attorney, visit the Wright family's empty farm house recounting the strange behavior of Mrs. Wright before her husband’s death.
This Property is Condemned by Tennessee Williams follows the musings and fantasies of Willie, a girl forced to grow up at a young age. Through a conversation with a young boy named Tom, Willie explores sisterhood, family tragedy and the dreams and imagination of youth.
The Dear Departed by Stanley Houghton is a rollicking farce: who gets what when the family matriarch is presumed dead? How does one scheming heir out-mourn the others? Everything falls apart and comes together at the same time for this zany family.
