Workforce Development Scholarships available for the fall semester
May 28, 2020
Made possible by the Minnesota State Legislature, Anoka-Ramsey Community College has a limited number of $2,500 Workforce Development Scholarships available to students seeking a certificate, diploma or degree in Business Office Technology, Computer Networking and Telecommunications, Computer Programming, Computer Science, Network Administration, Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, or System Administration
The scholarships hope to attract workers to in-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health care, information technology and transportation.
Anoka-Ramsey has distributed $62,000 to incoming students through the Workforce Development Scholarship program since its pilot in 2019.
Ashley Hagerdorn, a nursing student at Anoka-Ramsey was a recipient of one of the Workforce Development Scholarships last year. Hagerdorn, a mom, applied for the scholarship on her return to school after years of raising kids. “I have dreamt of being a nurse for years,” shared Hagerdorn. “I am now at a time in my life that I can pursue my dream. This scholarship will help tremendously by taking a little bit of financial burden off my shoulders and allow me to focus on the nursing program.”
To be considered, students must be enrolled in a minimum of nine credits each semester (including summer) and maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA).
The deadline to apply for fall semester 2020 is Aug. 30, 2020. But students are encouraged to register for classes and apply early; scholarships will be awarded based off eligibility and on a first-come, first-serve basis until all of the funds are allocated.
