Business faculty member Jon Gallop authors new human resources textbook
March 22, 2019
Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Business Department is full of faculty with real-world experience that give firsthand insights into the practices they teach. Recently, Jon Gallop, one of the Business faculty members at Anoka-Ramsey published a text book, The CIDER Method-A Human Resource Approach to Handling Employee Complaints, as a culmination of his professional experience.
“This book is a culmination of my 20 years as an attorney intersecting with my 18 years of teaching college business classes and helping businesses with their employment law issues,” said Gallop.
“The purpose of this book is to eliminate misunderstanding and lack of direction in handling employee complaints,” said Gallop. “The book emphasizes that businesses must have a well-defined system in place to address and respond to employee complaints or companies will not only be ripe for successful lawsuits against them but will also be a place where the work environment is not conducive to obtaining and retaining the best employees.”
The CIDER Method has been an ongoing project for Gallop for about ten years. From teaching ethics, business law and more, Gallop developed this book through his own learning experiences. The book teaches a novel, systematic method for addressing all employee complaints in a style that utilizes humor and case studies to help business students and human resource personnel comprehend the law, recognize issues and respond appropriately.
The method employs the acronym C.I.D.E.R. (Communicate, Investigate, Document, Evaluate and Respond) as the cornerstone for properly handling employee complaints. With this innovative approach, Gallop’s intention was to write a textbook that stands out and makes the subject interesting and engaging.
“This is a unique textbook in that it uses humor,” said Gallop, “which I hope keeps reader interest and aids the learning process.”
