2004 - 2009 Strategic Plan


FY07 Achievements (as of March 1, 2007)

Objective I. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will excel in teaching and learning.

  • Five additional class rooms were upgraded to provide SMART technology
  • On March 7, 2007 the Commission Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) validated the Institutional Actions Council's (IAC) decision to continue ARCC's accreditation for another 10 years.
  • An articulation agreement was established with MacNelly Smith for an AFA-Music.
  • A student success data base has been implemented.
  • Program review database is being updated
  • In response to identifying best practices in the classroom, four faculty members have formed a team to coordinate assessment of student learning
  • Faculty and staff have been provided updated program and institutional data including, a hiring report, developmental education enrollment and success data, math enrollment and success data, academic fitness program data, target setting data and TRIO program data.

Objective II. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will excel in student development and support services.

  • myARCC portal is in full operation, including scheduling, special notices and reminders.
  • Rolled out phase two of AskUs online advising. AskUs Chat offers students real-time, online advice from counselors and advisors.
  • The Coon Rapids Campus now offers Adult Basic Education (ABE)services to students
  • Evaluation of developmental education completed, results will be analyzed spring 2007
  • Hired an English for Academic Preparation (EAP)/ELL Advisor to meet the need of ESL/ELL/EAP students
  • Increased access to higher education by awarding 10 new $500 general student scholarships.

Objective III. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will be the college of choice for faculty and staff.

  • Climate Survey results are being addressed by the administration.
  • Re-established the Diversity Committee
  • Fourteen articles about ARCC faculty, staff and administrators appeared in area newspapers between July 2006 and November 2006
  • Pandemic Plan draft completed and submitted to MnSCU
  • Automatic external defibrillator training for faculty and staff completed
  • Contract awarded to General Security Services to continue security officer services on the Cambridge and Coon Rapids Campuses
  • Right to Know training held for faculty and staff
  • Safety improvements made to the crosswalk at 111th Avenue and Mississippi Boulevard in cooperation with the City of Coon Rapids
  • The Technology Department implemented a SPAM filtering solution, preventing the bulk of all “spam-like” email messages from reaching a user's mailbox
  • Contracted with Wenck Associates, Inc to coordinate and implement a Storm Water Pollution Plan (SWPP) and obtained a permit for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
  • Director of Diversity and Cultural Affairs reviews all employee vacancy postings

Objective IV. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will become a higher education portal.

  • Independent Research Summer Program (IRSP) launched in partnership with the University of Minnesota. Up to ten biology students will have the exclusive opportunity to gain real lab research experience with actual scientists.

Objective V. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will enhance existing career and transfer programs and establish new areas of study that respond to the needs of the community, employers, and the state.

  • Awarded the following SIP Grants for FY06:
    • Design for Best Practices: Evaluation of Course Design
    • eService Solutions: AskUS Chat Line Advising Services through RightNow Technology
    • Concurrent Enrollment Professional Development Opportunities
    • Investigation and Development of Medical Device Engineering Technology Degree Program
    • Exploration of an Associate of Science Degree in Biology
    • Curriculum Development for New AS in Environmental Science
    • eStudent Services Phase II: Chat Line Advising Services

Objective VI. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will strengthen institutional advancement with increased visibility and involvement in the community.

  • Received the following federal grants:
    • $384,648 CSEMS grant from National Science Foundation for under-represented students
    • $23,000 second-year funding from the U.S. Dept. of Education for biomedical development
    • Partnered in a new NSF ATE grant with St. Petersburg Community College (Florida), Edmonds Community College (WA) to develop certificate programs in Quality Systems Management, Documentation Management, and Clinical Data Management
  • Received & launched the following Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) grants:
    • $155,520 grant in partnership with the Anoka County Workforce Center for a Medical Device Assembly and Manufacturing program
    • $187,391 grant in partnership with the Anoka County Workforce Center for a Universal Health Care Worker program
    • $49,999 grant in partnership with Neometrics
    • $168,547 grant in partnership with John's Auto Parts Incorporated
  • Received the following MJSP grants in partnership with other institutions:
    • $399,994 = accelerated BSN with Metro State, North Hennepin CC, North Memorial Health Care, Regions Hospital, & Mercy-Unity
  • Established a direct mail newsletter, The Achiever, to replace the course catalog mailing
  • Received formal notification of a $100,000 bequest to be left in a donor’s will to Coon Rapids Campus Foundation and first planned gift (stock) at Cambridge Campus Foundation
  • Established Random Acts of Kindness and 5 new scholarships at Cambridge Campus through Kopp Family Foundation
  • Hired Anoka-Ramsey’s first Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Funding.
