2004 - 2009 Strategic Plan


FY05 Achievements (as of March 1, 2005)

Objective I. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will excel in teaching and learning.

  • Established and implemented a Program Review Process
  • Purchased and trained faculty and staff on Elumen assessment software
  • Created databases for assessment in four program areas (Physical Therapist Assistant, Business, Social Sciences, Music)
  • Attended assessment conferences, Train the Trainer, Making Our Students More Successful
  • Created an Assessment Resource Manual
  • Participating in Higher Learning Commission (HLC) conferences and conducting internal committee work to prepare for the college’s self-study visit from the HLC team in FY06

Objective II. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will excel in student development and support services.

  • Established a pilot online orientation service with feedback tool
  • Developed a Clubs & Organizations Guide for student activities
  • Established student email accounts for online courses
  • Implemented Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS)
  • Conducting Student Engagement Survey in spring 2005
  • Established high school transition task force with District 11 to address college readiness issues

Objective III. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will be the college of choice for faculty and staff.

  • Drafted a college-wide Human Resources Recruitment Plan
  • Conducting ongoing supervisory training and contract training
  • Beginning development of online employee satisfaction survey
  • Celebrated State Employee Recognition Week with contests, college-wide breakfast for faculty and staff, video message from the President, recognition bulletin board

Objective IV. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will become a higher education portal.

  • Signed Letter of Intent with St. Cloud State University to launch bachelor programs in Fall 2005. Tentatively, those programs and courses include teacher education (special ed), elective studies, biology, gerontology, educational media, and community development.
  • Formalized collaboration with Metropolitan State University and North Hennepin Community College for Bachelor of Science in Nursing to launch Fall 2005
  • Fleshing out infrastructure for seamless student support services
  • Presenting the higher ed portal concept at a national conference on March 5

Objective V. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will enhance existing career and transfer programs and establish new areas of study that respond to the needs of the community, employers, and the state.

  • Received accreditation for Business Online with Metropolitan State University
  • Received approval to offer an Associate in Fine Arts-Music and established articulation agreements with Minnesota State University-Mankato and Augsburg College
  • Added library web links and online services
  • Applying for approval to offer an Associate in Fine Arts-Art
  • Launched LPN-RN mobility program at Anoka Technical College
  • Launched new teacher education cohort with St. Cloud State University at North Branch
  • Expanded online course offerings (Philosophy 1115 & Speech 2220) and planning for more
  • Replicated Biomedical Technology program to Inver Hills Community College and Normandale Community College
  • Established the Midwest Preservation Institute in partnership with regional historical societies, historic architects, preservationists, city officials, Anoka Technical College, and trades people

Objective VI. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will strengthen institutional advancement with increased visibility and involvement in the community.

  • Lobbying to secure state funding for ARCC-Cambridge Campus demolition/academic addition project ($9.6 M)
  • Visited area legislators to encourage bonding bill support for the ARCC-Cambridge project and sent communiqués such as thank you notes and valentines
  • Opened a Continuing Education/Customized Training Center on the Cambridge Campus
  • Established a Small Business Development Center on both ARCC campuses
  • Implementing research regarding a possible name change for the college
  • Hired a safety & security director
  • Presented ARCC’s Strategic Profile to the Board of Trustees for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) System
  • Presented ARCC’s Facilities Master Plan to Office of the Chancellor staff
  • Developed 3 pre-design projects and presented to the MnSCU Board of Trustees for FY06 funding:
    • Coon Rapids Campus – Music Relocation & Fine Arts Renovation ($6,006,000): Design and construction funding for a single-level infill; design funding for Fine Arts renovation
    • Cambridge Campus – Workforce Co-location & Academic Growth ($3,383,000): Design and construction funding for a single-level addition and renewal for Workforce center; Design funding for an Academic Growth addition
    • Coon Rapids Campus – Bioscience & Allied Health Center ($1,027,000): Design funding for two-level infill
  • Beginning Alumni Relations activity through the MnSCU Name/Address Update project
  • Communicated Designs for Distinction through internal and external print and web materials (color brochure, annual report, internal brochure, www.anokaramsey.edu , an e-folio, and presidential speeches and PowerPoint presentations
  • Established an institutional marketing plan, based on a unified college brand
  • Increased the number of press releases and showcased outstanding faculty, students, and customized training customers
  • Received a Computer Science, Engineering, & Math Scholarship (CSEMS) grant ($384,648) from the National Science Foundation for under-represented students
  • Selected for inclusion in MnSCU’s FY06 federal earmark request to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services ($1m or $2.4m over three years)
  • Partnered in the U.S. Dept. of Education grant related to developing national skills standards for the biomedical device industry
  • Received 2nd year of funding ($23,000) from the U.S. Dept. of Education for biomedical development
  • Received $36,675 MnSCU initiative grant for Academic Fitness Program (Cambridge Campus)
  • Received $41,300 MnSCU grant for Biomedical online curriculum development
  • Partnering in multiple Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) grants:
    • $49,444 MJSP grant in partnership with Top Tool to teach process improvement, statistical analysis, and other workforce training topics
    • Partner in a joint grant to develop accelerated BSN and other CE training topics with Metropolitan State University, North Hennepin Community College, North Memorial Health Care, Regions Hospital, and Mercy & Unity Hospitals
    • $399,000 grant as a consortium partner with Xcel Energy to develop e-learning rapid response to industry needs
    • $399,846 grant in partnership with Cambridge Medical Center and Grandview Christian Homes for lift training and equipment
    • $222,968 grant in collaboration with the Anoka County WorkForce Center to provide customer service training and computer applications training
    • $39,669 grant in partnership with Incisive Surgical, an emerging company that is releasing its first product, a subcuticular stapler for closing general surgery incisions, to the marketplace
