Online Program Options

Anoka-Ramsey is pleased to offer you the opportunity to pursue your educational goals using online options at times convenient to you. For example, students may now complete the entire AS degree in Business online. It is also possible to complete the majority of the areas required for the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum via web-based or web-enhanced courses at ARCC.

Some of our web-based courses are completely online courses; others require students to attend on-campus training sessions, complete exams on campus, or attend other required meetings. You should consult the course descriptions for the specific requirements and talk with a counselor if you wish to complete most of your transfer curriculum online.

Are Online Options Right for You?

Student success in web-based or web-enhanced courses depends on several factors. In online courses you must assume extra responsibility for your learning. In general, students must be self-motivated; able to meet deadlines; familiar with navigating the Internet and accustomed to communicating via email, discussion boards and chat rooms. In some instances, students must have access to specific computer software but, in all cases, you must be computer literate.

Before deciding to enroll in an online course, you must have a computer capable of running course software, an Internet service provider, and a MetNet email account which will be valid for the entire course. Textbooks and any other necessary class materials should be purchased through the campus bookstore directly, or they may be mailed to you on request (call the ARCC bookstore at 763.433.1830 Cambridge Campus or 763.433.1250 Coon Rapids Campus). There are two optional training sessions for D2L training that will cover a variety of areas such as basic D2L, how to register for an online class, how to submit a discussion or message, how to prepare a student home page, how to prepare an assignment box, how to take a quiz, and also how to submit an assignment. Students who are interested in learning more about taking online courses should plan on attending one of these training sessions. If, after reading the course description in the course listing, you have any questions about whether the course you've selected is appropriate for you, then you should consult the instructor or a counselor before enrolling.
