Anoka-Ramsey Community College hosted its third annual Student Outstanding Scholarship, Creative Activities and Research Symposium (OSCARS) Wednesday, April 25 at the Coon Rapids Campus, and Wednesday, May 2 at the Cambridge Campus.

The event provided a forum for spectators to gain insight on a wide range of interdisciplinary works. Sample works included diverse themes from grief management, to antibiotic resistance and unique musical compositions.

A culmination of exceptional research and acquired skills, the OSCARS provided students with the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors in an academic subject. Outstanding entries into the competition received first place recognition in three categories.

Coon Rapids Campus 1st Place Winners

  • “Around a Judgment Day” by Axel Kylander (Also first place in Oral Presentations at the Cambridge Campus)
  • “Organize an Activity” by Jalwa Khan
  • “Testing for Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria in Wolf Fecal Samples” by Andrew Steward

Cambridge Campus 1st Place Winners

  • “The Effect of Buffer Zones, Flower Variety and Flower Coverage on Beneficial Pollinating Insects” by Meg Gable
  • “Do After School Jobs Affect Grades?” by Elizabeth Westphal, Julie Huss, Kaitlin Bender, Hannah Bartell
  • “Roles of the Golden Ratio in the US Election” by Megan Johnson
