Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Coon Rapids chapter of Phi Theta Kappa — Alpha Delta Alpha — earned the recognition of Distinguished Chapter at the organization’s International Convention in Anaheim, Calif., April 3-5, 2003. This ranks Alpha Delta Alpha as one of the 20 best chapters out of 1,200. The Chapter was also recognized as one of the top ten chapters in the hallmark of Fellowship and one of the top 25 chapters in the hallmark of Service. In addition, Priscilla Tempke, an Anoka-Ramsey Community College student, was recognized as one of 25 Distinguished Members, and the chapter received one of 30 advisor awards.

Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of Two-Year Colleges, is the largest honor society of higher education with over 1,200 chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan and Germany. It recognizes and rewards students for academic excellence. It also promotes the values of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship among its members. Alpha Delta Alpha was recognized for developing programs and activities in these areas that affect students and the community that Anoka-Ramsey Community College serves. In February, Alpha Delta Alpha was recognized as the Most Distinguished Chapter in their region, which covers the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas.

Said Gordy Wax, one of the chapter advisors, “We are very proud, not only of what our chapter members have done for other students, the college and community, but for how they have grown personally through their involvement and how they have developed into community leaders.”
