Cambridge, Minn. - Most college students have some idea of what career direction they want to head, but few have already found success in their chosen field prior to entering school. Singer/songwriter and University of North Dakota student Jesse Veeder doesn’t mind standing out from the crowd. In fact, she’d like to teach others how to do what she does.
On Sept. 14, Veeder will pay a visit to Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Cambridge Campus to share her talents. From 9 to 10:30 a.m., she’ll hold a song-writing workshop for students taking Fundamentals of Music. Music Faculty Member Jan Kopp will move that day’s class to the Campus Center Library and open it up to the general public. Following class, Veeder will perform during the campus-wide fall picnic at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the campus grounds.

Alternative folk singer/songwriter Jesse Veeder will conduct a song-writing workshop and perform on Sept. 14 at the Cambridge Campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
Veeder, 20, says she’s been playing guitar and writing songs since she was about 10 years old. She put out her first CD when she was 17, while still in high school. Growing up on a North Dakota ranch, she says people assume she’s a country singer. But she prefers to call her music “alternative folk.”
"It's a little bit country, a little bit folk, but it's got more of an edgy sound," Veeder says. She claims pop-folk star Jewel as a big influence.
Having toured throughout the Midwest and opened for the likes of Dan Seals and the Wilkinsons, she’s built a following, and earned several respectable reviews from music critics.
“Nature speaks to Veeder in poetry, out through her pen, her voice and her guitar,” says the critic in the Bismarck Tribune.
