Anoka-Ramsey Community College President Johns receives Award of Distinction

Dr. Patrick M. Johns, President of Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids and Cambridge Minnesota, was awarded the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction at the 86th International Convention of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of two-year colleges, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Johns is among a select group of 24 presidents from around the world who received the prestigious award this year.

“Dr. Johns has devoted himself to the mission of the community college and epitomizes Phi Theta Kappa’s commitment to excellence,” says Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa Executive Director. “His support is essential to the success of the Anoka-Ramsey Community College chapters of Phi Theta Kappa. His remarkable work is shaping and enhancing the lives of students and the quality of life in the state of Minnesota.”

Dr. Johns has been President of Anoka-Ramsey Community College since 1990. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree in history. His Master of Science degree is from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and he completed his Doctor of Education degree with a concentration in adult and higher education in 1988 from the University of South Dakota.

“I am honored to have received this award, and want to thank our students and particularly members of our Phi Theta Kappa chapters,” says Johns. “Students motivate me and are the reason why we as leaders must be proactive on their behalf.”

Anoka-Ramsey Community College has two highly respected Phi Theta Kappa Chapters: Alpha Delta Upsilon at its Cambridge Campus and Alpha Delta Alpha at its Coon Rapids Campus. These two chapters received several coveted awards at the International Convention.

Alpha Delta Alpha received:

  • Fellowship Hallmark Award
  • Distinguished Chapter Award
  • Robert Giles Distinguished Advisor Award, Luanne Kane

Alpha Delta Upsilon received:

  • George O. Bierkoe Distinguished Member Award, Elizabeth Biesiada
  • Continued Excellence Award for Advisors, Kathleen Hoffman
