Leaders empowered at Anoka-Ramsey Community College

In continuing its mission of providing excellence in higher education, Anoka-Ramsey Community College will send two of its administrative leaders, Karla Seymour, Financial Aid Director; and Marilyn Smith, Business Manager; to the National Institute for Leadership Development.

Seymour and Smith will participate in the Institute’s year-long program designed to enhance leadership skills. The training includes institutional practice in supervisory and human relations skills, planning and budgeting, and organizational transformation as well as discussions with national experts on the issues confronting higher education during the next decade.

Seymour and Smith were chosen to participate in the program for their professional abilities, their interest in advancement in higher education, and the quality of their work.

Seymour is a five-year administrator of Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, MN. As Financial Aid director, Seymour works to make Financial Aid more accessible to students and prospective students. She leads an annual event called, Financial Aid Super Saturday, which reaches out to more than 500 community members in an attempt to demystify the topic of financial aid and streamline the application process.

Smith is an eight-year administrator of Anoka-Ramsey Community College and a 19-year employee of the State of Minnesota. She holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN. As the institution’s Business Manager, Smith has guided the process of consolidating and streamlining the business offices on the college’s two campuses in Cambridge and Coon Rapids. Her leadership has assisted in keeping Anoka-Ramsey Community College fiscally sound.

The National Institute for Leadership Development is internationally recognized by colleges, universities and businesses for its visionary, holistic programs that produce leaders who effectively challenge assumptions, eliminate barriers and create new pathways to successful solutions.
