Timothy Emlyn Jones’ installation at Burren College in Ireland creates the effect of walking through rain

International artist, Timothy Emlyn Jones’ installation at Burren College in Ireland creates the effect of walking through rain for people using the glass walkway.

“Timothy is not only an amazing artist, he is a great storyteller” says Anoka-Ramsey art faculty member and event organizer Barbara Mehlman. “His drawings study aspects of drawing, much like a scientist would study something, yet it is beautiful work.”

Critics say that Jones takes it upon himself to re-learn the nature of drawing and its possibilities of expression. As a result, his work is concerned with the relation of the drawn image to the viewers perceptions of the phenomenal world, and their feelings about it.

As part of its commitment to higher education and to public engagement, Anoka-Ramsey art faculty provide several opportunities during the academic year for students, other faculty and the public to experience a visiting artist.

“Our visiting artist series provides great examples of people who have been determined and disciplined enough to produce art,” says Mehlman. “Art is such an individual path that many people, including students, can find hints as to how to do it themselves when directly in contact with artists such as Timothy.”
