College Honor Society gives top awards to Anoka-Ramsey Community College at regional convention

Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Cambridge Campus - Alpha Delta Upsilon

The Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Cambridge Campus - Alpha Delta Upsilon - received several top honors at the regional convention, including first runner up to the most distinguished chapter. Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Coon Rapids Campus Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) - Alpha Delta Alpha - hosted the regional honor society convention, Feb. 20-21. Alpha Delta Alpha and its sister chapter on the Cambridge Campus - Alpha Delta Upsilon - were awarded top honors at the event.

Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of Two-Year Colleges, is the largest honor society of higher education with over 1,200 chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan and Germany. It recognizes and rewards students for academic excellence.

The regional convention drew-in participation by two-year colleges from around Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. The award ceremony is a highlight of the event that recognizes chapters and individuals for their programming of activities in the hallmark areas of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship among its members.

For the third year in a row, Alpha Delta Alpha was named the most distinguished chapter in the region. It’s Advisor, Luanne Kane, was named Outstanding Advisor of the year. The chapter also received the following awards:

  • First place in service hallmark award
  • Honorable mention for leadership hallmark award
  • Distinguished Chapter President: Erin Monetti
  • Distinguished Chapter Officer: Dan Denno
  • Distinguished Chapter Member: Tristana Gunderson

Alpha Delta Upsilon received the following awards:

  • First runner-up to Most Distinguished Chapter in the region
  • First place in the scholarship hallmark award
  • Honorable mention for the service hallmark award
  • Honorable mention for the fellowship hallmark award
  • Distinguished Chapter President: Wendy Alvord-Ellingson
  • Distinguished Chapter Officer: Wendy Alvord-Ellingson
  • Distinguished Chapter Member: Elizabeth Biesiada
  • First Place in creative writing: Hanna Biesiada

Anoka-Ramsey Community College President, Patrick M. Johns was recently named the recipient of the prestigious Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction by Phi Theta Kappa. This award is presented to a select number of college presidents recognizing them for their support and contributions to their college’s chapter. Johns will be recognized for this award at Phi Theta Kappa’s 86th Annual International Convention, April 2, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
