A check for $5,000 was presented by Roger Johnson

A check for $5,000 was presented by Roger Johnson, center left, and John Covlin, center right, of the Coon Rapids Lions Club to Jim Amundson, ARCC Foundation Board Director and Luanne Kane, Director of Resource Development. These funds are a direct donation to the Presidential Scholarship Fund. The Coon Rapids Lions Club have donated more than $100,000 to this scholarship fund.

A luncheon in celebration of donors and recipients of the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Presidential Scholarships took place Feb. 12. The significant impact of these scholarships was made clear as the college freshman and sophomores spoke about how their education was enhanced by the scholarship.

Presidential Scholarships are available through the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation. They are awarded to high school seniors who are in the top 20 percent of their graduation class and carry a minimum GPA (grade point average) of 3.0. Students must complete an application; have a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher, and demonstrate leadership through school/community involvement. Scholarships can be renewed after a student’s freshman year in college if he/she maintains a GPA of 3.0.

The mission of the Foundation is to promote an awareness and understanding of the college and its educational, cultural and developmental value to the surrounding communities. Foundation volunteers accept donation for scholarships and other enrichment projects not provided through regular college funding.
