Anoka-Ramsey Community College Students Enter Political Process

Nearly 75 Anoka-Ramsey Community College students gathered in the Coon Rapids Campus Cafeteria Wednesday, Jan. 30 to learn about how to participate in the precinct caucuses throughout the state next week.

Josh Winters (shown), a representative from the Minnesota Participation Project division of the Minnesota Council of Non-Profits, rallied students at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Jan. 30. He encouraged them to take part in political caucuses at precincts throughout Minnesota on Super Tuesday Feb. 5.

The informational meeting, organized by Minnesota Council of Non-Profits, provided two speakers and a host of handouts to educate the college students about how to give voice to their issues in the political process.

Josh Winters from the Minnesota Participation Project, a sub-organization of the Council of Non-Profits, encouraged students to get involved but also to keep realistic expectations.

“No major change happens over night,” Winters says. “Change takes time, so don’t get cynical.” He went on to note how long the Civil Rights Movement and Women’s Suffrage Movement took to effect change.
