Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation Fund Balance Hits $1,000,000

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Coon Rapids Campus Foundation, established more than 20 years ago, recently surpassed the $1,000,000 fund balance.

Since 1987, the foundation has raised more than $3 million, says the colleges Director of Institutional Advancement, Evelyn Gedde. To a major university that amount may not be noteworthy, but for a relatively young community college in Minnesota, such as Anoka-Ramsey, this is a major accomplishment.

Students, such as Anoka-Ramsey Community College students and scholarship recipients Loan Luu (left) and Allen Mavis, will benefit from the $1,000,000 fund balance, a landmark recently reached by the colleges Coon Rapids Campus Foundation.

The $1,000,000 fund balance and the total amount raised for scholarships are more than simple benchmarks, according to Gedde. Since 1987, the foundation has granted more than $550,000 for special equipment, more than $115,000 in faculty grants and more than $1.24 million in 1,958 total scholarships.

The funds raised have an immediate and direct impact on the lives and education of our students, says college President Dr. Patrick M. Johns. Having a $1,000,000 fund balance will allow the foundation to impact even more lives in more profound ways.

Johns' words echo the mission of the foundation, which includes building relationships and raising funds to enrich students' lives as well as promoting awareness and understanding of the college and its educational, cultural and developmental value to the surrounding communities.

The Coon Rapids Foundation actively solicits scholarship funds through a variety of activities, including annual events such as a Golf Classic in the summer and Prairie Home Delights in the fall. Funds raised and provided by donations from organizations, businesses and individuals create scholarships that help keep post-secondary education affordable and accessible.

Scholarships vary in selection criteria, such as academic success, leadership skills, potential for success or the major field of study. Financial need may or may not be a consideration.
