Smith is a 5-5 libero (designated back row player used as a ball control specialist) and three-year varsity starter from Big Lake, Minn. Last year, she assisted her high school team, the Hornets, to an overall record of 18-10 and to the second round of the Section 8AAA Tournament where the team was defeated by Sartell High School in an intense five-game match.
During her high school years, Smith was named All-Conference Honorable Mention as a junior and All-Conference as a senior. During her senior year, Smith achieved 28 service aces, 409 digs and was named Co-Player of the Year along with Chelsea Erickson. Smith holds records at Big Lake High School for number of digs in a season (409) and number of digs in a match (49). She ended her career sixth on the career digs list with 663 digs.
“Sarah is a phenomenal libero with great ball control and vision of the court,” says Rongere. “I’ve targeted her all year as our number one prospect to fill that position on our team, and I’m thrilled to make her a part of Anoka-Ramsey volleyball.”
Look for Smith to be a leader in the back row for the Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams next season as they continue their newly established tradition of being one of the top teams in the Minnesota Community College Conference.
