Ramsey Lions Hit $85,000 Mark in ARCC Scholarship Donations

This July, the Ramsey Lions donated $15,000 to the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation scholarship fund. The donation brought the Lions’ total giving to the foundation to nearly $85,000 since the organization started supporting the Presidential Scholarship program in 1988.

Abby Kerns received an ARCC foundation Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 in 2007. Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) student, Abby Kerns received an ARCC foundation Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 in 2007. Students who receive scholarships often credit the assistance for helping them complete their education and make a commitment to return the gesture when they are able.

The foundation awards the Presidential Scholarship to select area high school seniors enrolling at ARCC. Recipients must graduate in the top 20 percent of their class and carry a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0. Students must complete a scholarship application, write essays, submit a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher and demonstrate leadership through school and community involvement. Scholarships can be renewed after the student’s freshman year at ARCC if the scholarship recipient has maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher. A freshman Presidential Scholarship award in 2007-2008 is $2,000, which covers approximately 51% of a full-time student’s tuition and fees for one year.

The mission of the foundation is to build friendships and funds to enrich students’ lives. The foundation accepts donations for scholarships and other enrichment projects not provided through regular college funding.
