Get Details About Four-Year Special Education Degree Program at ARCC Cambridge Campus

Current students, graduates and the public are invited to an information session Monday, July 16, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Cambridge Campus Room E241 detailing the all new bachelor's of science degree in special education that begins this fall.

The special education degree program, available entirely at Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) Cambridge Campus through a partnership with Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM), will allow ARCC students to complete their associate’s degree at ARCC and then apply directly to MSUM. Once accepted at MSUM, students can take classes that apply toward their bachelor’s degree offered by MSUM at the Cambridge Campus. Successful completion of this degree allows graduates to obtain a Minnesota teaching license in special education: emotional/behavior disorders.

To help fit into the demanding schedules of the students, particularly working adults, classes for this in-demand four-year degree program will be offered evenings and Saturdays and in a variety of formats.

The employment potential upon completion of this degree is extremely high and expected to continue to rise according to the U.S. Department of Labor. According to their Occupational Outlook Handbook, “Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase faster than the average (18 to 26 percent) for all occupations through 2014.” The need for special education teachers is being created by increased need for services, legislation emphasizing training for individuals with disabilities, educational reforms and by special education teachers retiring or leaving the profession.

For more information about this noteworthy new offering, consider attending the information session or contact Dr. Britt Ferguson at 218.477.2554 or fergub@mnstate.edu or Luanne Kane at 763.433.1297.
