“We are delighted to have Ms. Kysar bring her experience and insight to the board of directors,” says AWP Associate Director, Matt Burriesci.

Currently, the AWP represents 400 colleges and universities and thousands of individual writers. The organization also hosts more than 80 writers’ conferences and centers. Much of this activity is credited to those who give their time to a Board appointment.

“Being active with the AWP has connected me with faculty and students from other community colleges around the country,” Kysar says. “Every time I attend an AWP conference, I bring back a wealth of knowledge to Anoka-Ramsey Community College. This has been invaluable as we build our creative writing classes and move toward creating an Associate of Fine Arts in Creative Writing here at the College.”

Board members are among AWP’s most visible advocates; board members attend board meetings, participate as members of committees, give or raise money for AWP’s services and programs; shape the future of AWP’s development; and serve as guardians of the association’s financial resources. Kysar, however, has plans closer to home too.

“I hope to create a larger presence for two-year colleges at AWP and educate the organization about the many kinds of students who are served by Anoka-Ramsey Community College and community colleges around the country,” Kysar concludes.
