This opportunity is attractive to ARCC students and graduates, who
will complete their associate’s degree at ARCC and then apply
directly to MSUM. MSUM will accept their degree as completion of
under-division requirements. Once accepted, students will continue to
take classes on the ARCC campus, but the classes will be offered by
MSUM and apply toward their bachelor’s degree. Successful completion
of this degree allows graduates to obtain a Minnesota teaching
license in Special Education: Emotional/Behavior Disorders.
The U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, states: “Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase
faster than the average (18 to 26 percent) for all occupations
through 2014,” created by increased need for services, legislation
emphasizing training for individuals with disabilities, educational
reforms, and by special education teachers retiring or leaving the
profession.
Courses begin Fall 2007 and will be delivered through a combination
of on-campus, online, ITV and hybrid formats.
An information meeting for interested ARCC students and alumni will
be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at the ARCC Cambridge campus
in E244.
This program benefits students because the environment is familiar
and convenient-same campus, same library, same parking, same support
services, and now a bachelor’s degree, too!
ARCC students and graduates do not need to travel a long distance to
get a bachelor’s degree. Working professionals, who want to complete
their bachelor’s degree or obtain a teaching license in Special
Education, can take evening or weekend classes, too.
