College Art Sale Provides Gifts, Student Support

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) Art Club is holding a Student Art Sale, May 2-3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Coon Rapids Campus College Services Area. One-of-a-kind gifts including hand-blown glass pieces, ceramic pieces with beautiful textures and glazes, paintings and pencil and charcoal drawings will be available for purchase just in time for gifts for Mother’s Day, summer weddings and simply supporting future community artists.

“I look at this sale as an opportunity for students to show leadership,” says ARCC art faculty member, Mark Lambert. “The students make decisions from art selections and presentations through publicity. They learn real life skills.”

Though the work is produced by students, most of the artists are in their second year of ARCC Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) program and have well-developed skills.

Student Art
Art, such as this intricately-colored, blown glass (shown) by student-artist, Chris Gray, ceramic pieces with beautiful textures and glazes, paintings and pencil and charcoal drawings will be for sale at Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) Student Art Sale, May 2-3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Coon Rapids Campus, College Services Area.

“The instructors here have a way of getting the amazing to come out of us,” says glass artist-student, Christopher Gray.

“The instructors are reputable artist and the facilities here are just remarkable,” Lambert adds. “Anoka-Ramsey is known for its great art program, and no other Minnesota college offers glassblowing.”

The result of great instructors and facilities as well as unique programs is outstanding art and student-artists, who grant meaning to the often-used phrase, Starving Artist Sale.

“I’ve been supporting myself since I moved to Minnesota from Iowa,” Gray says, having traveled to ARCC for the unique glassblowing program. “I know almost all of the other art students are working either full- or part-time just to get a chance to bring their art into the world.”

Gray, as well as most of the student-artists, will be available during the sale to discuss their vision or intention for their work. “I just hope the community comes out to take a look at what the kids [college students] are passionate about.”

Don’t miss your chance to support young artists and add to your collection of original art work. For more information, visit www.AnokaRamsey.edu.
