In the final Championship game pitting ARCC against the second ranked team in the country, Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks on their home court, the Golden Rams took a 15 point halftime lead 32-17. The Golden Rams were ahead by 19 points before Mohawk Valley was able to cut the deficit to one with only 2:43 remaining in the game. Monroe Valley however failed to score again and Anoka Ramsey was able to close out the game 52-44. The win was led by ARCC players Desirae Robinson with 18 points, four rebounds and Sonja Ellingson with 14 points, five rebounds.
This is the 6th National Championship that the ARCC Golden Rams have won in the last 14 years. The team finished the 2006-2007 season with a 26-4 record, which included winning their last 16 consecutive games.
The Championship win was not ARCC’s only victory either. Players Marlayna Graff and Amanda Reh were both inducted to the All Tournament Team. Sonja Ellingson was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and ARCC Head Coach, Dave DeWitt was named Coach of the Tournament.
“While these three players are well deserving of all tournament recognition, it was an entire team effort,” says DeWitt. “Key contributions came from each player at various times. Our battle cry throughout the post season has been, ‘We Are AR,’ because it has taken all players and coaches--past and present--to make the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball the program what it is today.”
