Minnesota Representative Joseph P. Opatz,
Ph.D., assumed the interim responsibility
as Dean of Educational Services at Anoka-Ramsey
Community College, Nov. 20. Opatz will
take a temporary leave of absence from
his current position as Associate Vice
President for Academic Affairs at St.
Cloud State University.
“We are enthusiastic to add Joe’s
unique and vast experience in higher
education to our administrative team,” says
Patrick M. Johns, Anoka-Ramsey Community
College President. “Joe’s
commitment to higher education is proven
through his extensive track record. He
will bring excellent and unique skills
to Anoka-Ramsey Community College as
an administrator.”
Opatz was elected to the Minnesota House
as Representative for St. Cloud in 1993.
His additional role at St. Cloud State
University began in 2001. In both positions,
Opatz has focused on Minnesota’s
public higher education through policy-making
and funding.
“I am a strong advocate for the
mission of our community colleges and
have worked hard to assure their success,” says
Opatz. “I am convinced that it
is our two-year colleges that will increasingly
be the economic engine for our state’s
future growth and prosperity. And that
is why I joined Anoka-Ramsey Community
College.”
As Interim Dean, Opatz will provide
responsibilities that include guiding
the assessment process for accreditation,
providing input to the strategic planning
process currently underway at the college,
as well as other leadership functions.
