| Nearly 100 Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) students, staff, faculty and community members assembled at the Coon Rapids Campus Nov. 30 for a panel discussion on social ecology as a strategy for economic and job creation, third world development, anti-war activism and environmentalism. Topics discussed included: global warming and Kyoto, ecology and capitalism, conservation as a competitive edge for business, jobs and market opportunities through renewables, oil and Iraq, nuclear and Iran, environmentalists and labor and the International Renewable Energy Agency. |

The event was sponsored by ARCC’s honor society Phi Theta Kappa, Campus Democrats and Progressives, Student Government and Political Science Department. Panelists included Maxine Klein, social critic, animal rights activist and Minneapolis Community and Technical College faculty; Ken Pentel, two-time Minnesota Green Party gubernatorial candidate; David Foster, Blue-Green Alliance and former President of Minnesota Steelworkers; and Dan Frankot, Chair of Democratic Socialists of America, Twin Cities.
