Anoka-Ramsey Community College Welcomes New Faculty

As the college begins its Fall 2006 semester, many new faces will be spotted touring both campuses of Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC). And it’s not just the students who are new.

Fifteen full-time faculty members have joined ARCC. New faculty this year include:

Andrew Aspaas, Chemistry Department faculty. Aspaas, who will now teach on the Cambridge Campus, has been teaching on the Coon Rapids Campus since 2004. He has a master’s in chemistry from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s in chemistry from Augustana College.

Corey Blommel, Computer Networking and Telecommunications (CNET) Department faculty. Blommel is currently completing his master’s in MIS. He completed his bachelor’s in information technology management at Concordia University, and has been teaching part-time in the CNET program for the past three years.

Mary Bodelson, English Department faculty. Bodelson received her master’s in English from St. Cloud State University in 2005 with majors in rhetoric and applied writing and teaching English as a second language. Since her graduation, she has been teaching at Ridgewater College.

Nina Bohrod, Mathematics Department faculty. Bohrod has been teaching part-time at ARCC for the past three years. She earned bachelors’ degrees in mathematics and political science at Wellesley College and a master’s in mathematics at Northwestern University, where she also served as a teaching assistant. Prior to joining the ARCC faculty, Bohrod worked in industry developing software and taught mathematics at community colleges in New Jersey and Illinois.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Clark, Nursing Department faculty. Clark received a bachelor’s in nursing from Iowa Wesleyan College and a master’s from the University of Minnesota. She has many years of critical care nursing experience and has worked as a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist at three metro-area hospitals. Clark previously taught at Normandale Community College.

Jennifer Liberty Clark, Psychology Department faculty. Liberty Clark will begin Spring 2007 as a full-time psychology instructor on the Cambridge Campus where she has taught since 2004. She has a master’s in applied psychology from St. Cloud State University and a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Fern Deno, Nursing Department faculty. Deno has taught as a part-time instructor at ARCC for three years. She received her bachelor’s in nursing from Holy Names College in California and a master’s in nursing from the University of California at San Francisco. Deno has held critical care nursing and clinical education roles at numerous hospitals in Texas, California and Minnesota. She has taught part-time and full-time at six colleges and universities.

Yu Deying, exchange faculty from Zhaoqing University. During her stay in Minnesota, Deying will be teaching beginning and intermediate Chinese as well as Chinese culture Deying holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s.

Kyla Dropkin, Nursing Department faculty. Dropkin has bachelor and master degrees in nursing from the University of Minnesota. She has many years of staff nursing and clinical leadership experience in medical-surgical settings. Dropkin previously worked in nursing faculty and nursing lab coordinator positions at the College of St. Catherine.

Lisa Everts, Physical Education/Health Department faculty. Everts has a master’s in education from St. Mary’s University and a bachelor’s in PE/Health from St. Cloud State University. For the past 12 years, she has been teaching full-time at the Cambridge-Isanti High School while also teaching part-time at ARCC for six years.

John Mago, Business Department faculty. Mago is completing his dissertation for a doctorate in organization development from St. Mary’s University. His master’s in management is from Cardinal Stritch University, and he completed his bachelor’s in business finance at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He has been dean of the faculty at the Minnesota School of Business for the past two years and has considerable experience teaching online.

Kathryn (Katie) Markell, Psychology Department faculty. Markell received her PhD in experimental/developmental psychology from Loyola University of Chicago in 1987. She has 23 years of college teaching experience and is coming from Cardinal Stritch University where she has been on the faculty since 1993.

Jillayn Quaschnick, Physical Education/Health Department faculty. Quaschnick most recently taught at Century College in White Bear Lake and has a bachelor’s in health and physical education from Concordia College and a master’s in physical education and pedagogy from South Dakota State University.

Steven Restad, Business Department faculty. Restad has a master’s in business administration from the University of St. Thomas and a bachelor’s in advertising and public relations from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He has considerable experience in international business, having lived, worked and studied in Japan for three years. He has been teaching part-time at North Hennepin Community College for the past two years.

Christina Sonnek, Mathematics Department faculty. Sonnek completed her master’s in mathematics and her bachelor’s in mathematics and computer science at the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD). Before coming to ARCC, she worked as a teaching assistant and part-time instructor at UMD and Century College.
