ARCC alumni
returned to campus to share experiences
and advice with current
ARCC students at the Math Department’s
7th annual Alumni Panel and Picnic.
A panel discussion featuring five
ARCC math alumni allowed current students
to learn what it’s like to transfer
to four-year math programs, what the
job market is like for math majors,
what internships are available, and
more.
The panelists shared their wisdom
and experience with the more than 30
students that attended. Alumni panelists
included Don Sawyer, who attended ARCC
in the mid-1990s and now works as a
computer programmer for Target; Megan
Paris, who attended in the late-1990s
and now teaches at St. Francis High
School; Andy Nystrom, a 2004 graduate
who is pursuing a degree in math and
computer science at the University
of Minnesota; Joe Blomer, a 2004 graduate
who is pursuing a degree in electrical
engineering at the University of Minnesota;
and Jaymes Grossman, a 2005 graduate
who is pursuing a degree in computer
engineering and electrical engineering
at the University of Minnesota.
Following the panel discussion, students,
faculty, staff and alumni traveled
to Lion’s Coon Creek Park for
a picnic. Approximately 60 attendees
enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs and other
treats, along with spirited games of
basketball, croquet, bocce and Frisbee.
