Six members and a faculty
advisor of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)
chapter
from Anoka Ramsey Community College
(ARCC) Cambridge Campus recently traveled
to Seattle for the honor society’s
international convention. They returned
home with three awards and many good
memories.
The Cambridge Campus PTK Chapter,
known as Alpha Delta Upsilon, received
a Service Hallmark award and was named
among PTK’s top 100 chapters
in the world. ARCC member Paula Jackson
received a Most Distinguished Member
award.
PTK is an honor society that recognizes
and encourages scholarship among two-year
college students. The 2006 PTK International
Convention welcomed 3,400 members from
PTK chapters around the world.
Convention attendees heard presentations
from such luminaries as former U.S.
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright,
2004 Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Maathai,
and journalists Mirta Ojito and Cokie
Roberts.
The convention also provided members
the opportunity to attend smaller forums
and seminars on a variety of topics.
Cambridge PTK chapter members Paula
Jackson and Gary Steffenson and faculty
advisor Kathleen Hoffman conducted
a forum entitled “The Four Hallmarks:
Guiding and Rewarding,” which
was attended by 125 PTK members.
