Aspire Program Connects Students to College Success at Cambridge Campus

Information sessions every Thursday in June and July at 4 p.m. on campus

The Cambridge Campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College presents an opportunity for students to get started in college and succeed by transferring or graduating in just two years. It’s called the Aspire Program and it’s a two-year college degree program providing one-on-one advising, specialized and tutoring, team-teaching environments connecting subjects to real-life applications, and smaller class sizes, facilitating greater connections for the participants.

This one-on-one approach to students is common at the College.

“We want Aspire students to feel connected to us, and to others in the program,” says Matthew Schuster, Aspire Program Advisor. “Research shows that when students make these connections, they are more likely to stay in school and complete their degrees.”

How it works
The Program is designed for all ages and creates a smooth transition to college, whether students are coming directly from high school, from the workplace, or from working at home.

“The whole process of getting ready for college, registering, applying for financial aid, and selecting classes can be overwhelming,” says Schuster. “We can help students navigate the process and be successful at our college and beyond.”

To be accepted into the Aspire Program, students need to complete a college admissions application and an Aspire Application. The Program has availability for 70 new, full-time students who have been identified as either low to moderate income, students of color, or whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree.

The Aspire Program is made possible due to a grant from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) that provides the funds to bring this opportunity to fruition.

Starts with Summer Bridge
Students who qualify may choose to begin with two courses this Summer Semester. Developmental English and mathematics offer refresher courses to prepare students for college-level courses beginning Fall Semester. One of these courses is free - fully paid for by the grant if students take both courses simultaneously.
