A Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Grant brings education and businesses together. The grant included signatures of, (from left) Mike Seymour, Anoka-Ramsey Community College Vice President of Administration; Rick Shand, OakRiver Technology CEO; and Rick Caligiuri, Director of Job Skills Partnership and Business Services for the State of Minnesota's Department of Employment and Economic Development.

The grant signing, Sept. 25, makes the partnership official: Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids and Cambridge, Minn., and OakRiver Technology - a medical device and electro mechanical device firm in Oakdale, Minn. - are now working together through a Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Grant from the State of Minnesota's Department of Employment and Economic Development. The signing was held at OakRiver Technology's new facility.

This grant will allow the college to provide extensive training on OakRiver Technology's business processes. Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) applied and won the grant last spring and actual training is scheduled to begin immediately and runs through June 2006. Oak River Technology has also committed to hiring two biomedical program or engineering program interns annually and to serving as guest lecturers for Anoka-Ramsey Community College classes.

OakRiver Technology is a rapidly growing company that needs to stay at the leading edge of technology and process training. According to CEO Rick Shand, OakRiver Technology needs two things to stay competitive in the biomedical device industry - "speed and knowledge." Working with ARCC on the MJSP grant will provide training and development opportunities for OakRiver employees that will help them operate both faster and smarter.

"ARCC's Continuing Education and Customized Training unit is also excited to work with OakRiver Technology," says ARCC Project Manager Denise Gamble. "The college's programs and students will benefit from this partnership. We always learn new and better ways of serving the business community when we embark on another of these MJSP grants."
