Anoka-Ramsey Community
College students Isaiah Waid, top, and
Jeremy Borntrager,
bottom, play the roles of Pseudolus and
Hysterium in the upcoming musical comedy, “A
Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum,” scheduled for February 3,
4, 9, 10, and 11 on the Coon Rapids Campus. |
Set in Ancient
Rome, the popular show features crafty
slave Pseudolus, who
struggles to win the hand of a beautiful,
dimwitted courtesan for his equally
dimwitted young master in exchange
for his own long-sought freedom. Singing,
dancing and (almost) a human sacrifice
all combine in a mixture of mischief,
mishaps, mistaken identities and mayhem.
With hilarious songs by Stephen Sondheim
and a raucous book by Larry Gelbart
(creator of M*A*S*H) and Burt Shevelove,
the show delivers on the promise of
its signature song: “Comedy tonight!”
The production is directed by ARCC
theatre faculty member Scott Ford,
with set and lighting design by ARCC
theatre technician Tom Valach. All
performances are scheduled for 7:30
p.m. in the Performing Arts Center
on the Coon Rapids Campus. The Feb.
9 show will be an interpreted performance
for the hearing impaired. Tickets are
$8, available at the door, and in advance
at the College Bookstore, or by calling
763-433-1250.
