College Holds Hoops Clinic For Aspiring Girls Basketball Players

Girls work on their shooting skills Girls work on their shooting skills at a two-day basketball clinic for girls in grades four through nine held at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in December.

A two-day girls basketball clinic held in December at the Coon Rapids Campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) allowed 65 young players from the North Metro area to develop their hoops skills.

The young women in grades four through nine worked for three hours each day on skills and fundamentals such as shooting, ball handling, and more.

“We wanted to focus on skill development, rather than competition,” said ARCC women’s basketball coach David DeWitt, who directed the clinic. ““The response and feedback was very positive.”

The clinic was co-sponsored by the Minnesota Summit Girls Basketball, an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team.

“I have a passion for the game of basketball,” DeWitt said. “We’ll be doing more of these clinics during the year and in the summer.”
