Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC)
is offering two bachelor-level Gerontology
courses and one graduate-level Gerontology
course through St. Cloud State University.
Courses are offered Fall Semester at
ARCC's Coon Rapids Campus.
GERO 208: Introduction to
Gerontology (Tues. 6-8:40 p.m.) First class meeting
is Tuesday, Sept. 13.
This course will introduce you to the
interdisciplinary study of human aging
within in the U.S. and around the world.
The processes of aging (physiological,
psychological, and sociological) will
be explored through the primary theme
for this course - diversity in the
experience of aging.
GERO 425 & 525: Dementia
and Aging (Mon. 6-8:40 p.m.) First
class meeting is Monday, September
12.
This interdisciplinary course examines
dementia in older persons from three
inter-related perspectives. The first
perspective focuses on the nature,
causes and symptoms of dementia in
later life. Conditions resulting in
dementia, including Alzheimer's disease,
will be stressed. The second perspective
focuses on the impact dementia in later
life has on the family. Issues of family
care giving will be stressed. The third
perspective examines the individual
experience of dementia in later life.
Strategies of coping with dementia
in later life will be addressed. Additionally,
ethical, political and programmatic
issues will be explored throughout
each of these perspectives.
