| Anoka-Ramsey Community
College has an information
session, for people interested in
its GIS--Geographic Information Program
coming up in August—Tuesday, August
19 at 6:30 p.m. in the College Testing
Center on the Coon Rapids Campus, 11200
Mississippi Blvd NW. The information session
provides an opportunity for prospective
students to learn more about the program
options and meet with faculty in the program.
Carole Fuller, the new program director,
says “Recent world events have heightened
the importance in the GIS and Cartography
field. Anoka-Ramsey’s GIS program
prepares students to use GIS in business
marketing decisions, agriculture, transportation,
emergency and crisis planning. GIS allows
users to analyze and present complicated
data in ways that make visual impact.”
Anoka-Ramsey Community College offers
a GIS Associate of Science Degree and
a certificate program with courses that
meet in the evenings to complement student
work schedules. Program options include
a one-year certificate program and a two-year
Associate of Science degree program in
Geographic Information Systems.
Rosie Mortenson, dean of Continuing Education
& Customized Training, states “The
GIS programs are growing in importance
as businesses and government agencies
try to assess and plan for a wide range
of needs. We have sought out advisory
board members and faculty who are industry
experts to help shape Anoka-Ramsey’s
GIS programs.”
