College has two information
sessions about its Biomedical Technology
Programs coming up in August—Wednesday,
August 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, August
23 at 9:00 a.m. Both sessions will be
held in room C256 on the Coon Rapids Campus,
11200 Mississippi Blvd NW. These sessions
provide an opportunity for prospective
students to learn more about the program
options and meet with faculty in the program.
Anoka-Ramsey Community College introduced
its Biomedical Technology Program in 1999
to help meet the needs of the biomedical
device industry. The program was developed
as an outcome of the training that the
college’s Continuing Education &
Customized Training Division had done
for Possis Medical, Inc. as part of a
Minnesota
Job Skills Partnership Grant.
Carole Fuller, the new program director,
attributes much of the success of the
program to several factors. “Employers
on the advisory board have helped shape
our programs, adjunct faculty members
are from the industry, and each student
completes a supervised internship in the
field. Our programs prepare students for
work in the medical device field--from
entry to professional level jobs. “
Rosie Mortenson, dean of Continuing
Education & Customized Training, says
“The program has seen a number of
adult students with very diverse backgrounds
successfully transition into jobs in the
biomedical device field.”
Program options include a one-year certificate
programs for Biomedical Technician and
a two-year Associate of Science degree
program in Biomedical Technology. In addition,
they offer a “high-end” certificate
in Clinical Research for students who
already have undergraduate degrees in
science or nursing.
