College’s Two Rivers Reading Series presents Blues Vision: African American Writing from Minnesota, Nov. 2

October 14, 2016

Anoka-Ramsey Community College is hosting three award-winning authors—Alexs Pate, Shannon Gibney and Taiyon Coleman—who will read from and discuss Blues Vision: African American Writing from Minnesota, Wednesday, Nov. 2, from noon to 12:50 pm and again from 2 to 2:50 pm in the Coon Rapids Campus Legacy Room. The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Blues Vision is an anthology comprised of the perspectives of 43 different African American writers from Minnesota. The poetry and prose found in this collection highlights the complex truths of what it means to be an African American living in Minnesota. Congressman Keith Ellison said, “Blues Vision captures the rich history of African Americans living in Minnesota, with each writer sharing an honest perspective of what it means to be black here.”

The college’s Two Rivers Reading Series provides students, faculty, staff and the public access to award-winning authors, poets and playwrights each semester. Two Rivers Reading Series events make learning more comprehensive by combining classwork with real-world experiences. This event is supported by the English Division, the Office of Diversity and Multiculturalism and Faculty Development.
