Online Orientation - Step 1a - Degrees & Programs

Degrees & Programs

Undecided? Need help planning your degree?

Your education plan should reflect your interest, skills and goals. But it is also important to choose general education and elective courses that enrich your educational experience.

No matter where you are at in planning your education, there are academic advisors at Anoka-Ramsey to help you. If you are undecided on a major, the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is a great place to start!

It is not uncommon for entering college students to be undecided about an academic major/program or career choice. There are a number of resources on campus to help students with their career decisions, here are a few:

  • CAOR 1102 Career Development course
  • Take an introductory course in an area of interest
  • Career Counselors & Career Resource Center

First Year Experience

First Year Experience is a course designed for all new (or nearly new!) college students. FYE will provide new tools to use in setting
and achieving academic and personal goals. FYE will also connect you to the resources available to you on campus to help you be successful here at ARCC and in your personal life. Students entering ARCC with less than 12 credits are strongly encouraged to enroll in FYE.

Transfer Students

A transfer student is a student who has earned 12 or more college level credits

To ensure a smooth transfer to Anoka-Ramsey Community College follow these steps:

  1. Apply and send your transcripts to the Records & Registration Office in a timely manner. If you have attended other MnSCU institutions, our Records & Registration Office can access eTranscripts if a request form is submitted by you here.
  2. After the request is made for transcripts please schedule an appointment with an advisor to review your transfer evaluation.

Please allow 2 weeks after submitting your transcript for it to be officially evaluated by the college.

Please visit u.Select for more information regarding transfer equivalencies. Click here to learn how to use u.Select!

Transferring Out

Many students attending a community college indicate that their goal is to work towards the completion of their general education requirements and transfer to a four-year college or university. Whether your transfer objective is clear or undefined, academic advisors are available to assist you with this important decision.

Will my credits transfer? Anoka-Ramsey has a number of articulation agreements. Articulation agreements are partnerships between colleges that make the transfer of credits a smoother process. Even without an articulation agreement ARCC's credits are commonly accepted. Be sure to confirm this with the institution you plan to attend. u.Select is a good resource to unofficially evaluate how your credits may transfer. Here is a link on how to use u.Select.

Advantage of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (General Education/MnTC) The MnTC includes 40 credits in 10 goal areas. Typically, the MnTC will meet the lower-level general education requirements for a 4 year degree at a MnSCU institution or the University of Minnesota.

Advantage of an Associate in Arts (AA) degree? The AA is intended for students who want to transfer and earn a 4 year degree. There are also a number of AA degrees with an emphasis at ARCC which have articulation agreements with various 4 year institutions. Typically, a student with an AA will have their lower-level general education requirements complete. The AA consists of the MnTC, wellness credits and elective credits which can be used to:

  • Complete pre-requisites needed for anticipated four year degree program
  • Explore career focused courses that will prepare you for work

Be sure to discuss your transfer plans not only with an academic advisor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College but with an academic advisor from the institution you plan to transfer to. Transfer guides are also available online to help you choose courses based on the institution or program to which you plan to transfer.
