STEP 4 Receive & Follow Award Letter Steps | Step 1. Apply for your Federal PIN. If you are providing parent information, one parent must also sign your FAFSA and will need to apply for a PIN. Your PIN serves as your electronic signature and speeds up the process for all your federal financial aid processing. Missing signatures will result in a rejected application.
