Rams Defeat St. John's JV

November 24, 2008

The Anoka-Ramsey Men’s Basketball team went on the road and defeated the St. John’s JV 74-66 on Saturday evening behind the hot shooting of freshman DeAndre Mason. After falling behind by seven early in the game, the Rams got a huge lift off the bench from Mason as he hit 3 straight 3’s shortly after entering the game. However, despite Mason’s efforts (16 first half points) the Rams still trailed by two at the half (33-35). Dribble penetration by the Johnnies resulted in a number of open 3’s which enabled St. John's to maintain the lead throughout much of the first half.

The second half proved to be a different story for the Rams. A much better defensive effort limited the number of open shots that St. John’s had, and also allowed the Rams to force nine turnovers in the second half (15 for the game). The hot shooting continued not only for Mason but carried over to others as well. Cole Alexander connected on three 3’s in the second half finishing with 11 points on the night. Antonio Tate also knocked down a couple of jumpers and was able to get into the lane and draw fouls. Tate finished the night with 11 points also. Mason wound up with a career-high 25 points on 8-14 shooting including five of nine from 3. The Rams also registered their lowest turnover output of the season committing only 12 for the game but made up for it by pulling down 12 offensive rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey is back in action at home on Saturday, November 29th at 3:00 p.m. vs. NJCAA Division II opponent Madison Tech. The Rams improved their season record to 2-3.
