Anoka-Ramsey Community Foundation Scholarship Listing - Coon Rapids Campus


 

The following are scholarships made available through the ARCC Foundation to students who plan to enroll at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids Campus. Selection of students is made based on the scholarship criteria and preference is given to students who reside in the campus service area (This service area is large, please contact us if you are not sure you are in our service area). This scholarship list is intended to be an overview of the types of scholarships offered. Some scholarships may be offered during specific cycles while others may no longer be available.

These scholarships are possible through donations from Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation Board of Directors, Community Donors and ARCC College Staff. This scholarship was established by Jim Deal, Foundation Board member 1987-1995, (President 1992-1993) and his wife Pam Deal, Foundation Board member 1995-2001, (President 1998-1999) to encourage and support students with an entrepreneurial spirit. This scholarship is intended for an entrepreneurial student. Qualifying applicants must prove they are interested in being self-employed in an additional written essay answering the following: “If I had the money to start any kind of venture, it would be…” (Describe the product or activity involved.)Qualifying applicants must also be prepared to maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA while enrolled full-time per semester.

This scholarship was established by Garrison Keillor in memory of his grandmother Dora, a teacher in Ramsey Township at the turn of the century. This scholarship is intended for a student pursuing a degree in teaching. Applicants must submit an additional written essay (300 words) answering the following: “The best teacher I remember.”  Qualifying applicants must also be prepared to maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA while enrolled for a minimum of eight credits per semester.

This scholarship is intended for a non-traditional aged student who can provide evidence of a major life change through post-secondary education. Qualifying applicants need to have graduated from high school at least seven years ago, and demonstrate a financial need. MERRISUE SOUTOR

This scholarship was established by The ARCC, Coon Rapids Campus Foundation Board of Directors in honor of Merrisue Soutor, Foundation Executive Director from 1987-1992, to recognize non-traditional women students who volunteer or work with volunteers. This scholarship is intended for a non-traditional aged female student who is very involved in acts of community service. Qualifying applicants must submit documentation of their volunteer services. They must also be prepared to be enrolled for a minimum of six credits per semester.

This scholarship is in memory of Evan Stein. Evan graduated from Anoka High School in 2010 and started ARCC in the fall of 2010. He was only able to attend a few days at ARCC when an automobile accident claimed his life.

This scholarship was established to recognize the academic achievement in the area of Music.  A scholarship recipient must be accountable to meeting the following criteria upon receiving the scholarship.  A recipient must meet all components below during each semester upon receiving a scholarship. This scholarship was established by The ARCC, Coon Rapids Campus Foundation Board in honor of Dr. Neil Christenson, past president of ARCC. It recognizes the efforts of a non-traditional student who needs a second opportunity to achieve his/her potential through formal education. This scholarship is intended for a non-traditional-aged student who has been out of high school for at least three years and out of college at least one year. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who was academically unsuccessful in his/her first attempt in college, and who now plans to earn a degree. Qualifying applicants are expected to submit a previous college transcript, and must be prepared to enroll for a minimum of eight credits per semester, and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.

This scholarship is intended for a student who has been out of high school for at least one full academic year, and who has demonstrated leadership involvement in school and/or the community. This scholarship was established by Phillip De Wolfe, retired ARCC faculty member, to recognize men over the age of 25. This scholarship was established by Mercy/Unity Hospital's Medical staff to assist with nurses' training and the LPN mobility program. This scholarship was established: By Anoka County Voiture 390, 40 et 8 and its Cabane in conjunction with area American Legions for nurses' training. Students who apply for this scholarship will be required to complete a separate application form in addition to the ARCC, Coon Rapids Campus Foundation application. A qualifying candidate will demonstrate a need for financial assistance, be a vet or a son, daughter, grandchild, or spouse of a veteran. BERNIE AND NATALIE STEFFEN

This scholarship was established to honor Bernie and Natalie Steffen who were both instrumental in helping to make our community a better place to live. Bernie, an attorney for Barna, Guzy & Steffen, died in 2002. He was passionate about the value of education. Natalie, a member of the College Foundation Board and Advisory Committee, fought for more government support of higher education, greater accessibility, more accountability and in particular, more financial support for students. This scholarship is intended for a proven self-sufficient student who demonstrates great character through involvement in on- and off-campus activities. Qualifying applicants must also demonstrate ineligibility for financial aid, be prepared to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, and be enrolled for a minimum of ten credits per semester.

This scholarship was established in memory of Mitch Gast, Foundation Board Member from 1996 to 2003, and Foundation President from 2002 until his death in January 2003. To recognize a student who understands and values the importance of customer service. This scholarship is intended for a student who has declared their pursuit for a four-year degree with a business major. Qualifying applicants must be prepared to maintain cumulative 3.25 GPA while enrolled full-time per semester. Applicants are also expected to submit an additional typed essay addressing the following: Why do you think customer service is important, and how have you demonstrated excellent customer service in any of your past experiences? In your future business, how would you continue to provide excellent customer service as well as emphasize this philosophy with your co-workers and or/employees?

This scholarship was established by the six sons of Joe and Delores Lehn to recognize their parent’s commitment to education and in particular, Anoka-Ramsey Community College where Delores was on staff for 20 years. GLBT HOPE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was funded in memory of the many recent teenage suicides related to bullying, particularly over actual or perceived sexual orientation issues. This scholarship is designated for a GLBT student (or allies who participate in the ARCC GSA student group, demonstrated in education or community involvement essay). Must demonstrate financial need and be attending at least half-time (minimum 6 credits).

This scholarship was established by Ann Sidoti (past Phi Theta Kappa advisor) and Anoka-Ramsey Phi Theta Kappa honorary society to recognize the scholastic achievement and service commitment of its members. This scholarship is intended for a returning sophomore who is an active Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Delta Alpha member on the Coon Rapids campus. This scholarship was established by family, staff, students and friends of Ryan Weltman, an Anoka-Ramsey graduate and back-country ranger at Yellowstone National Park. The scholarship is awarded for leadership within Phi Theta Kappa or the Student Senate. This scholarship is intended for a member in good standing within Phi Theta Kappa or the Student Senate. Qualifying applicants are expected to submit an additional 500-word essay (along with required educational and financial essays) demonstrating “The Critical Need for Environmental Activism” and a letter of recommendation from an advisor describing their leadership activities in Phi Theta Kappa or the Student Senate.

This scholarship was established by Walleye Capital VFW for students from Isle attending ARCC. This scholarship is intended for a student who is a resident of the Isle area. THE SEASONS DINNER THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP

The Seasons Dinner Theatre at Majestic Oaks is a presenting theatre company in the Coon Rapids/Anoka/Andover area. They present two productions annually and have been closely connected to ARCC through the Theatre Department at the College. Because of this connection, the Seasons Dinner Theatre has generously created a one-time scholarship for students studying technical theatre as a career. Technical Theatre includes all the “behind the scenes” aspects of the theatre process: scene shop, costuming, lighting, sound, etc.

This scholarship was established in memory of Barbara Brown, late Coon Rapids Campus math faculty member. This scholarship is intended for a student who began at ARCC with a developmental math course, and who is currently enrolled in Math 1201 or higher. Qualifying applicants must complete 12+ Coon Rapids Campus credits each semester while maintaining a cumulative 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance primarily to ARCC students who are family members of current Hoffman Engineering employees, especially those who are pursuing a degree in science, engineering, bio-medical science, or math. This scholarship was established in honor of Bill Raeker, retired business faculty member. This Scholarship is intended for a nontraditional female student 25+ years of age who is working on earning a two-year business degree, and who has met adversity and kept a positive attitude. RON HUNTER ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

This scholarship was established by Ron Hunter, chemistry faculty member from 1965-1997, to recognize organic chemistry students. To be considered for this scholarship the applicant must earn a minimum letter grade of “B” in Organic Chemistry I and enroll in Organic Chemistry II for spring semester at ARCC, Coon Rapids Campus. In addition, the qualifying candidate must enroll in 8 ARCC, Coon Rapids credits and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

This scholarship was established by faculty and staff at ARCC in memory of Faculty Emeritus of Humanities, Robert Cutting, who died in 1991. This scholarship is intended to be an academic scholarship that recognizes a student who pursues the humanitarian integration of knowledge across disciplines—which includes areas such as philosophy, fine arts, natural and social sciences, literature, history and humanities. Qualifying applicants must be prepared to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA while enrolled for a minimum of eight credits per semester.

This scholarship is intended for a student who has been admitted to or is currently enrolled in the PTA program and has demonstrated strong characteristics of passion for PT work, dedication, courage, commitment, and initiative. Qualifying applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from any health care provider, shadowing mentor, class instructor, or treating PT patient, and they must also be prepared to maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher.

CHRISTINE HEATH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by members of Christine’s family to memorialize Christine who, at age 40, was killed on March 12, 2005, by a drunken driver in a head-on car accident. Christine, a 2001 graduate of ARCC’s Nursing Program, was a cardiac nurse at Mercy Hospital. This scholarship is intended for a first year Nursing student with a preference for a non-traditional female of 23 years or older. Student must demonstrate a financial need and they must also be prepared to maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher.

DR.WILLIAM CARR

This scholarship was established by doctors and hospitals in the ARCC service area to honor Dr. Bill Carr for his many years of dedicated service as a general practitioner. Dr. Carr retired from the medical profession in 1992. As a board member for the ARCC Foundation, Dr. Carr supported the nursing program in spirit as well as in procuring equipment and dollars for scholarships. This scholarship is intended for a second year nursing student. Qualifying applicants must be prepared to maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA while enrolled full-time per semester.

By William Zitelman in memory of his wife who died much too soon. LT. MARK ALLEN PRUSINSKI

This scholarship was established by JoAnne Prusinski in memory of her son, Lt. Prusinski, who attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and died in a plane crash over the Mohave Desert in California in March, 1990. Applicants for this scholarship will be a student enrolled in a health-related career program at ARCC. With all things considered equal, the preference for this scholarship will be given to a: Unity Hospital volunteer (please submit documentations) who is a resident of the Unity service area, or non-traditional aged student. This scholarship was established in memory of Joan’s father who passed away in August 2012. Though John E. Roth did not go to college himself, he encouraged Joan and her sister to go to college. Joan was the person in their family to graduate from college. This scholarship is intended for a current high school graduate. This scholarship is awarded to a nursing student who participates in a physical activity on a regular basis and is a non-smoker.
